What is an IPRC?
The Identification, Placement, and Review Committee consider whether children meet the board criteria as exceptional pupils, identifies the educational needs of the student, and recommends the location or placement for instruction. A student can be referred to an IPRC on the request of a teacher or parent (make the request in writing-see sample below). It is likely that you will be invited to attend a school committee meeting to discuss the evidence of intellectual giftedness before testing and/or the IPRC; you should go prepared with your own observations and evidence (see question #1 above; also see Rogers, Karen B., Re-Forming Gifted Education, Scottsdale, AZ: Great Potential Press, 2002. ISBN 0-910707-46-4 and/or Matthews, Dona, and Foster, Joanne, Being Smart About Gifted Children, Scottsdale, AZ: Great Potential Press, 2004. ISBN 0-910707-66-9) A board should provide information to you about the operation of the IPRC in advance of the meeting; ask for the information if necessary
