What is an IP address? What is the difference between a dynamic and a static IP address?

An IP address is simply a way for other computers to find you on the Internet. Every computer on the Internet has one. A dynamic IP address means that when you dial into our server, the server issues an IP based on the next available one in it s unused IP list. If you dial in a second time, most likely you will be receive a different IP. The dynamic IP is the most common method of IP distribution over the Internet by access providers. A static IP address means that you have the same IP all the time. This allows computers to find you even if you are not on-line. Some software requires you to maintain a static IP.
