What is an Ion Generator?
Ion generators do not use filters, but function on the theory of electrostatic attraction. The ion air puifier produces negative ions from a needle-like point usually located near the top of the air purifier. The negative ions are then carried by the indoor air currents, magnetically attaching themselves to airborne particles. The particles then receive the negative ion’s negative charge and is attracted to positively charged items such as any surface. Walls and furnishings are positively charged, so the airborne particles are attached to these surfaces. Most ion generators can produce a “black-wall” effect whereby surface areas can get dirty as a result of the clinging particles.
