What is an Insurance Services Office rating (ISO)?
To help establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties, insurance companies need reliable, up-to-date information about municipalitys fire protection services. ISO assigns a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents exemplary public protection and Class 10 indicates less than minimum recognized protection. Ten percent of the overall grading is based on how well the fire department receives and dispatches fire alarms. Fifty percent of the overall grading is based on the fire department. The final forty percent is based on the communitys water supply.
