What is an Ingrowing Toe Nail?
An ingrowing toe nail is a condition in which a splinter or serrated edge of the nail pierces the skin next to it, normally causing inflammation and acute tenderness. Ingrowing toe nails are common where the skin is moist and the person is active and for this reason the condition is more common in teenagers and young adults. The majority of ingrowing toe nails involve the large toe nail, although smaller toe nails can also be affected.
