What is an informal observation?
Generally an informal observation does not require that a formal lesson plan be shared with the observer. The observation can just be a quick “walk through” by the observer, or could be 30 minutes or longer. The observer may or may not take notes, and may or may not interact with the students in the classroom. Informal observations may be pre planned. At other times, the observer may come in unannounced. Generally some discussion about the observation should take place. If the observer does not initiate this, the new teacher certainly should.
