What is an influenza-like illness (ILI)?
An influenza-like illness (ILI) is an illness with symptoms of fever (100F or greater) and either cough or sore throat when no other specific cause can be found. Other symptoms also may occur, such as runny nose, fatigue, body aches, headache, and nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. Because these symptoms may be seen in other illnesses and testing for H1N1 influenza is no longer being done in the out-patient setting, it is difficult to be sure if this is influenza or the start of another illness, such as mono, the common cold, pneumonia, or meningitis.
