Infrared camera works on the principle of Thermal imaging. The one of the main reasons for installing  infrared camera is to increase the surveillance. When you install the infrared  camera they should not overlap the  the view of each other. There are infrared camera which is directly connected to the internet so you can record or see your place by sitting anywhere

I am using AXTON  IR illuminator . I find it very useful at night surveillance. If you are thinking of buying any IR illuminator then go for it.

An infrared (IR or thermal imaging) camera provides a color representation of surface temperature differences so that hot and cold spots, warm and cool air leaks, and other temperature related differences become visible. An IR camera can be used with a blower door to visually show temperature differences in problem areas. If IR is used as part of your Home Energy Audit we will include these pictures in our report to help explain our findings and recommendations. However, please be aware that successful thermal imaging requires a strong temperature difference between the inside and outside of the house. Ideal conditions are during cold weather with the heat on, or hot weather with the air conditioning on. Although we may not be able to use the very visual demonstration available with IR due to weather conditions, it does not affect actual testing and reporting for your home’s Home Energy Audit.
