Each patient is different. Your care may vary from the information given here. The Urinary Tract The urinary tract is made up of 2 kidneys, 2 ureters, a bladder, and urethra. The kidneys are at waist level toward your back. They filter blood and make urine. Each kidney has a ureter or tube that carries urine to the bladder. The bladder stores urine, then it is passed from your body through the urethra. What is an Indiana Pouch? After your bladder is removed, you will need a pouch to hold urine. The Indiana pouch is a urine pouch that is made from part of your bowel. You will drain urine from the pouch many times a day using a catheter. The Indiana Pouch is made from a part of the small bowel (ileum), and part of the large bowel (the cecum and the ascending colon).
