What is an independent study, and how many hours of it can I apply to my degree?
Independent study projects allow you to investigate topics not ordinarily covered in regular department courses, or to expand on a specific aspect of a course you’ve already taken. The guidelines and contract form appear in the appendix of the graduate handbook. You should work out your project ideas with a graduate faculty member in your area of specialization.
