What is an Immigration Bail Bond?
An immigration bail bond is a guarantee to the court that the alien in question will show up to all appearances set by the Immigration Court. If the alien fails to appear for any court ordered appearance the bond is forfeited and the bonding company will have to pay the amount of the bond to the court. It also could jeopardize the aliens rights. HOW DOES A PERSON POST A BOND? 1. A cash bond may be posted directly with INS. For example, if the bond is $20,000.00 someone on behalf of the alien can post $20,000.00 cash with INS and the alien will be released. After the person has completed their obligation to the court (possibly a year or more) the money will be returned to the same person who posted the bond. INS does have certain requirements, so one should check with INS before hand; OR 2. The other option is to use the services of an immigration bondsman who will post the bond for a nonrefundable fee. Please be aware that for a bondsman to post immigration bonds he must have a special
