What is an IEP, whats in it and how does it influence my teaching?
According to Pursuch and Friend in Including Students with Special Needs (pp. 10, 11, 31, 52, 54-59), an IEP is an individualized education program. This is a document prepared by the multidisciplinary team or annual review team that specifies a students level of functioning and needs, the instructional goals and objectives for the student and how they will be evaluated, the nature and extent of special education and related services to be received, and the initiation date and duration of the services. Each students IEP is updated annually. It influences the manner of teaching by providing instructional goals, objectives and evaluation for the identified student. Return to main page.
