What is an IEP and why does my sensory impaired child need one?
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a requirement of the federal government to ensure that special education students are properly evaluated, that reasonable and appropriate learning goals and objectives are established, that progress is reviewed, that necessary related services are provided, and that a Transition plan is established and reviewed (when the student becomes 14 years old). The IEP also spells out the degree to which a special education student will participate with non-disabled peers and the level of participation in state and school assessments.
