What is an ICD-10-CM or PCS Code?
The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) will be used to code diagnoses in all health care settings. The ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) will be used to code hospital inpatient services and procedures. This is the first major revision of the current ICD-9-CM coding system since 1975. Regulatory Compliance Effective on or after October 1, 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code sets that will replace ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure codes. Medi-Cal providers will be required to use these codes for all HIPAA transactions including outpatient claims with dates of service and inpatient claims with dates of discharge effective October 1, 2013.
