What is an FDA variance?
There are several laws and requirements which govern use of high powered lasers such as X-laser systems. These laws restrict the use of such laser systems in much the same way as laws which govern the driving of a car. A variance is essentially a federal license to operate high power laser systems and you are required to have one just as you are required to have a driver’s license before driving a car. However, despite the many misconceptions about variances, they are easy to get and have little or no cost associated with obtaining them. The point of a variance is to make sure that you, as the user of a laser product, are well versed in basic laser safety and that you are committed to using laser products safely. You wouldn’t want to be on the road with someone who never learned how to drive nor would you want to be in a club with a high power laser operated by someone who does not know how to use it.
