What is an Externally Caused Traumatic Brain Injury?
An externally caused traumatic brain injury occurs when the brain is damaged by a force from outside the body. The head may be hit by a moving object, may strike a stationary object or be shaken violently. This can occur during a car crash, a serious fall, an act of violence or during another type of accident. Although we usually associate severe impairments with visible damage to the body, a serious brain injury can occur without signs of injury to the face or head such as cuts or breaks in the skin.
