What is an expatriate / repatriate?
In a broad sense an expatriate (or ‘expat’) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country/city other than that of their home country/city. The word comes from the Latin ex (out of) and patria (country, fatherland). Expatriates are also referred to as ‘skilled migrants’.A repatriate is someone who returns to their home country, having worked on an assignment overseas on a temporary basis.
