What is an example of a recent NCPS initiative?
The Ensuring Correct Surgery Directive is NCPS’ most recent safety initiative. Wrong site, wrong patient and wrong implant procedures are relatively uncommon adverse events but often devastating when they occur. The new directive offers a simple, straight-forward, five-step procedure to avoid adverse surgical events. It went into effect Jan. 1, 2003, and is just one way the VA is achieving or exceeding the Joint Commission’s new 2003 patient safety goals. Visit the Joint Commission for more information on their patient safety goals.
