Everything has a cause and an effect, for example: – daming a river causes flooding upstream which might have the effect of causing a lot of people to have to move somewhere else to live and loose their land / house etc. If used to generate electricity then it will have a good cause of producing a reliale supply for an area. If the out flow is controlled well it can bring prosperity to the downstream areas as they get a regular flow which is better for growing crops and living by, without the fear of drought and flood. Building the dam will bring work to an area but it could cost a lot of lifes to build it.
