An essential model is technology and implementation-independent. By eliminating all unnecessary assumptions or restrictions based on how a system will be implemented, essential models get closer to the heart of the underlying problems being solved. Essential models are abstract, simplified, and generalized in comparison to concrete or physical models that represent designs literally.
