What is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system?
An ERP system is a software system that integrates the different business processes into a centralized tool that facilitates data sharing and eliminates redundancy. ERP systems include a single database containing all of a company’s information from all departments and functions, a common interface used by all users to obtain information, standardized business processes for performing transactions using information stored in main database, and a common reporting structure with which users can perform “real-time” queries of information stored in the database. ERP systems can present many benefits to NASA, including real-time, in-depth reporting on financial information, streamlined business processes incorporating best practices, and reduction of administrative burden on NASA staff.
