What is an enhanced voucher?
The federal government has a housing voucher program: in buildings that had or have federal mortgages: • If the tenant pays • the higher of the last rent charged or • 30% of the household income, the government will pay the rest to the landlord — subject to certain conditions. The tenant must be eligible: • With a household income no greater than 95% of the “median” income for New York City. (“Median” means half of all households earn more, and half earn less.) That means • $47,100 for a 1-person household; • $53,850 for a 2-person household; • $60,600 for a 3-person household; • $67,350 for a 4-person household; • $72,750 for a 5-person household, and • 78,100 for a 6-person household. • The tenant is already paying (or will pay a a government-approved rent increase) that is at least 30% of the household income. • No one over the age of 16 in the household has been convicted of a crime — unless that person can show “rehabilitation.” Enhanced voucher applications and administration i
