What is an endowed scholarship?
An endowed scholarship is a permanent scholarship. The gift is not spent, but invested. A portion of the annual income – usually 5% – is used to fund the scholarship. The rest of the income is added to the principal so the scholarship grows each year. (See Scholarships) A classmate of mine belongs to the Old Main Society. What is that and how can I join? The Old Main Society recognizes those alumni and friends of the University who have remembered Kutztown University in their will or who have made another type of planned gift.
An endowed scholarship provides a permanent source of funding for a specific scholarship program. Since the endowment’s principal is preserved and only the income is used, these scholarships are perpetual. Endowment funds are invested by the Investment Committee set forth by guidelines from the Foundation’s Investment and Spending Policy.
