What is an EMT, EMT-I, EMT-P, EMS?
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is the collective name of all individuals who ride ambulances, provide various levels of prehospital (out-of-hospital) care to people who are sick or injured, and also to individuals who provide support services to those riding ambulances (like dispatchers and fire fighters). EMT-B: Emergency Medical Technician – Basic. The EMT-Basic represents the first component of the emergency medical technician system. An EMT- B is trained to care for patients at the scene of an accident and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital under medical direction.
