What is an Emotional Boundary and Why do I want one?
A personal/emotional boundary sets your limits. It is a way to distinguish yourself from Others. It is an expression of your body, your spirit, your thoughts, and your emotions. Sometimes an emotional boundary can be a barrier that creates isolation and you feel lost or alone. Sometimes an emotional boundary can be so porous that you are exposed to everything that enters your personal space and you lose yourself. Any boundary you make that is motivated by habitual anxiety causes you to feel isolated or emotionally merged. A healthy emotional boundary adapts and is flexible under changing circumstances. This helps you define & maintain your sense of what is important to you. Knowing what you think and feel, plus what you need and want, is how you establish a relationship with yourself and your environment. This is important for emotional autonomy.
