What is an embedded file?
An “embedded” or “stored” file is similar to linked files. However, some programs allow the user to embed the image directly into a document. For example, Illustrator and Corel Draw allow for an image to be embedded. When an object is embedded, the information used to create the image is stored into the layout program. In general, embedded images greatly increases the size of the layout document. The advantage to embedding images is that only the layout document is needed for final output. The disadvantage is, if there is a problem with one of the images, the original file must be opened, fixed and updated in the layout file.
