What is an email-borne virus?
Viruses are malicious pieces of code that vary from being annoying to entirely destructive in nature. Email-borne viruses are generally included in nondescript everyday files such as Word documents, audio files such as MP3s, or even be hidden in image files. Generally these types of viruses do not continue to propagate via email; those that do are called Worms (see below). Additionally, most virus-infected emails are not sent maliciously – the sender is usually unaware that they have sent an email with a virus-infected attachment.
