What is an email alias?
An email alias is a virtual email account. It enables you to use an email address that doesnt really exist and have all the messages sent to that address routed to a real email account. For example, you may want to provide a link on your Web site that enables visitors to send email to the Web Master, who is really you. You can use the email alias webmaster@yourdomain.com but have the email routed to your real email account. EasyHost enables you to set up an unlimited number of email aliases.
An email alias is a name@yourdomain.com that does not have a corresponding POP3 box set up. For example, if you have a POP3 box called sales that is your default, but you have not created any others, mail to anyone@yourdomain.com will be sent to the sales box. If someone were to email webmaster@yourdomain.com, in this example, that mail would be forwarded to the sales POP3 box.

An email alias is another name for your email account. It allows for different email addresses to share the same mailbox. It can be used to have mail for a given email address be sent to one or more different recipients. For example, if your email address is janedoe@yourcompany.com and you would like your contacts to send mail to info@yourcompany.com, this can be done by adding “info” as an alias pointing to the “janedoe” mailbox.
Email aliases allow you to give your mailbox additional names which can receive email. Each WebCentral mailbox allows you to configure one main name and up to four aliases or extra names that deliver email to the same mailbox. For example, one mailbox might have the main name john@acme.com.au, and the following aliases: john.smith@acme.com.au, marketing@acme.com.au, marketing.manager@acme.com.au and marketing.department@acme.com.au, so that any email sent to any of these addresses will automatically be delivered to the main name mailbox. This feature allows you to create multiple email addresses for the same organisational function, and to quickly change or add email addresses as your staff and functions grow.
