What is an eligible list for a tested position?
Eligible lists contain the names of the persons who were determined by written examination results to meet the minimum requirements of specific positions. Eligible lists remain in effect for one year unless fewer than three names remain on the list. At the hiring director’s request, if a large number of names remain on a list, it may be extended up to a maximum of two additional years. As positions become available, persons on the eligible list are contacted by the hiring department to continue the screening and selection processes. Positions that require a written examination must be filled by applicants who appear on a valid, certified eligible list.
