What is an effects loop and how do I use it?
An effects loop is used for inserting guitar effects into the signal path of the amplifier between the preamp and the power amp. This allows you to apply effects after the amplifiers distortion has been created. Although there is no right or wrong place to use an effect, there are certain conventions often adhered to. Wah pedals for instance are generally plugged into the front of the amplifier. Delays, reverbs, choruses and volume pedals are generally used in the effects loop. Experiment and see what sounds good to you. Plug the send of your amplifier into the input of your effects using a guitar cable. Plug the output of your effects into to the return of the amplifier.
