What is an audit instrument?
An audit instrument is a written protocol that organizes audit procedures into a sequence of steps and specifies the actions to be taken by an auditor. It will include instructions to the auditor in areas of scoring points for specific elements of the health and safety management system being evaluated. The audit instrument will guide the auditor in deciding which techniques to use in evaluating specific elements (e.g. document review, interviewing and observation techniques). Alberta Employment and Immigration has an Audit Standard against which audit protocols are compared. Only those audit instruments that meeting the Standards will be accepted when carrying out an audit for a COR.
