What is an ATO digital certificate?
Digital certificates are electronic files used to identify you when you access our online services. Your ATO digital certificate is attached to the Australian business number (ABN) of your business. When you login to our online services, you will be asked to select your credential (ATO digital certificate or AUSkey) and enter your password. Our systems check to see that the password you supply matches the credential you have selected and that the credential your computer is presenting to our system is the one that matches your identity. Once you have installed your ATO digital certificate on to a hard drive, you then have the option of copying your digital certificate to a USB stick to make it portable.
