What is an Assisted Living Residence (ALR)?
Assisted Living Residences are licensed by the State Department of Health (DOH) and are one of only two types of residences that that may lawfully represent themselves as providing assisted living. The other type is an Assisted Living Program. Assisted Living Residences serve the same types of residents as adult homes and enriched housing programs and provide the same services. However, the law requires them to provide certain additional disclosures and resident rights. Currently, Assisted Living Residences are pending approval with the DOH.
