An articulation disorder is when a child does not make speech sounds correctly due to incorrect placement or movement of the lips, tongue, or palate. Phonology refers to the speech sound system of language. Every language has a set of rules that dictate what sounds are allowed and in what positions of words, and if sounds can go together. A phonological disorder occurs when children have a different rule set and a pattern of errors occur. Keep in mind that some sounds normally develop later than others /th/, /r/, /v/ are particularily hard for children and not typically mastered until grade one.
