What is an appropriate way to model a offshore riser?
It is important to add many points along the riser section of pipe e.g. at approximately every 8 to 10 feet to provide adequate mass discretization so the program can capture the distributed wave loading accurately across the riser pipe. Riser pipes are typically sloped at 10 to 15 deg and guide supports on the riser will be normal to the pipe axis and the reaction loads normal to the pipe can be seen in the a support forces report which shows Local and global displacement’s and reactions. Note: Platform wave displacements should be applied at the platform anchor and riser guides.
