What is an antibiotic resistant bacteria?
You have had a positive culture for a bacteria that cannot be treated easily with antibiotics. This type of bacteria is commonly known as an antibiotic resistant bacteria. Antibiotic resistant bacteria will not make you any sicker than more common bacteria and are sometimes treatable with a combination of antibiotics and/or with newer kinds of medications. In many cases, the body’s own immune system is able to attack antibiotic resistant bacteria to either rid them from the body or to keep them “in check” by not allowing them to grow to numbers that might lead to sickness. Healthy people are in no danger of becoming sick from antibiotic resistant bacteria because their bodies are very good at fighting off any bacteria that are not common to their own bodies.
