What is an ANILCA Section 810 hearing?
Section 810 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) requires federal agencies to conduct hearings in local communities when management actions may significantly restrict subsistence use. These hearings provides an opportunity for individuals potentially affected by management decisions to provide testimony about the impact the decision or action may have on their lifestyle and/or the resources they depend on. Individuals may also recommend ways to reduce impacts on subsistence use. The agency considers the testimony and may make adjustments in the plan prior to issuing a Record of Decision.
