What is an anesthesiologist?
An anesthesiologist is a physician who has taken additional training in this field of medicine. After graduating from medical school with an MD degree, the physician completes a four-year residency in anesthesiology. All of our physicians are board-certified. Some continue training in a “fellowship”, where they focus on particular treatments or patient populations.
An anesthesiologists is a medical doctor who has completed an internship and 4 years of specialized education in anesthesia. In Canada, an anesthesiologist is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a specialist, and has the designation Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC). In Canada, anesthesiologists sometimes refer to themselves as anesthetists, but in other countries, the distinction is the level of education and training (medical degree and fellowship training) to accumulated greater experience and understanding and permit broader judgment. A special group in Canada ‑mostly in rural areas‑ is Family Practice Anesthetists. These are skilled individuals who are qualified in Family Medicine and who have completed additional training in one of the university departments of anesthesia.
An anesthesiologist is a doctor of medicine who has completed four years of medical school, one year of internship and three years of residency training. Sometimes additional specialized training is undertaken leading to a fellowship in a subspecialty such as cardiac anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, or pain management. Once residency training is completed, the anesthesiologist becomes eligible to take the board certification exam given by The American Board of Anesthesiology. All Anesthesiologists employed by ASPA are board certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology or are in the process of becoming board certified.
An anesthesiologist is a physician that has undergone specialized, post-graduate training in the field of anesthesiology. Like all physicians, after graduating from college, anesthesiologists undergo four years of medical school to learn all aspects of medicine. After obtaining a doctorate in medicine or after becoming a physician, they proceed to a three or four year residency specific to the medical discipline of anesthesia. Some continue to complete additional years of fellowship training within the specialty of anesthesia (i.e. pediatrics, pain, or cardiovascular anesthesia).
An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor with additional training in anesthesiology, which is the practice of medicine dedicated to the relief of pain and total care of the surgical patient before, during and after surgery. Anesthesiologists’ training involves a three to four-year residency after the completion of an internship program. Your anesthesiologist leads the anesthesia care team to monitor and manage your vital body functions during your surgery and is responsible for your comfort and well-being.
