What is an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)?
Also known as a Free-standing Ambulatory Surgery Center (FASC), an ASC is a facility providing ambulatory surgical services, which operates independently and is physically separate from a hospital. Surgeries not requiring hospital admission can be performed at an ASC. New surgical techniques continue to transform inpatient surgeries into outpatient procedures. Today, more than 70% of all surgeries can be performed in an Ambulatory Surgery Center – a service-oriented hospital alternative which, for many, can be more cost-effective, more convenient and less stressful.
