What is an alternative school?
Alternative schools are those that serve students by providing them with a number of nontraditional options for completing their education. Programs range from those that serve pregnant teenagers to those that serve students who wish to participate in accelerated programs. All of HISD’s alternative schools (which include “contract” schools), offer individualized attention and instruction to students. Click the links at right for more information.
It is a school setting that allows the student to attend at the student’s convenience. Are there any age limits? Yes. Students 16 and older may attend. Will I be able to keep my job? Yes. An attempt will be made to schedule at time at CCAHS so you may keep your job. How long will it take me to finish? There is no set time to finishing. It will all depend on the amount of time you have to spend on the classes you need to graduate. What type of diploma will I have when I finish? You will have earned a Concordia High School diploma that indicates “Alternative Studies” on it. Will I be able to go to college when I graduate? Yes. You will be subject to the same entrance requirements as any high school graduate.
