What is an alias?

0

An alias is a way to group one or a bunch of e-mail recipients into a shorthand name. It is also referred to as an individual’s personal Address Book. A user can make entries into their address book. You can shorten a long, oft-forgotten address like belinda@wiretap.champaign.illinois.com to ‘mom’. Or create a list of users which you refer to as ‘friends’. A user creates their own aliases. A personal e-mail alias is only valid for the user who created it (therefore do not publish the e-mail address as officers@freenet.fsu.edu for others to use).

Basically this is an account created as a Forwarder and sent to another email account.

An alias is a nickname for each address in your Contact list. This makes remembering and adding contacts to your e-mails easier because you can assign short names to e-mail addresses, which can be difficult to remember or tedious to type out. For example, if you wanted to add your father to your address book, you may enter the alias “Dad”. When sending a message to your father, you can add “Dad” to your recipients in place of the full e-mail address.

Aliases are simply other names for existing searches. Aliases are defined in aliases.txt and/or localaliases.txt, but localaliases.txt is meant to be the user-defined file, and it won’t be overwritten on an install. Aliases also provide substitution of ‘%s’ (no quotes) with the actual search string. This allows some custom searches to be added very quickly just by adding the URL with ‘%s’ in the query string. Aliases are also referred to as Shortcuts.

Select a screen name you would like to be referred to by the community. Your alias is a fictitious name that you will choose to identify yourself on this site. Since your privacy is important, you may post your resume such that no personal information such as your real name, email address, phone number, etc. is exposed. In this case, since each alias is unique, if direct communication is desired it can be accomplished via the moderator. If a recruiter wishes to contact you about a job opportunity, he/ she may contact you easily via the moderator (see below, FAQ number 10).
