What is an AKC Canine Good Citizen?

0

A Canine Good Citizen is a friendly, well-behaved dog that we can take virtually anywhere without risk or bother to others — a dog who behaves well in a crowd, has good manners when guests visit our home, is reliable around children, and who doesn’t lunge, bark at, or threaten other dogs or passersby. This class will focus on teaching/strengthening the behaviors that are necessary for a dog to pass the 10 tests required for Canine Good Citizen Certification from the American Kennel Club. This certification is available for any dog that is able to pass the 10 tests. The dog does not need to be pure-bred to earn a Canine Good Citizen Certification from AKC. Each of the behaviors needed to pass the tests will be introduced and methods for teaching the behavior will be covered. Students will practice with their dogs during the class period. All students are expected to attend the first 4 weeks of the class. Additional sessions will be on a “drop-in” basis until the dog is prepared to pass
