What is an Aircraft Sheet Metal (ASM) Mechanic?
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic’s typically fall into one of two categories. The first are those involved in aircraft assembly. They are typically provided pre-formed/pre-drilled panels and subassemblies which the mechanic uses to assemble the aircraft structure and skin surfaces. The Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) mechanic works on operational aircraft and is responsible for the removal, inspection, repair/fabrication, and replacement of aircraft skin and structural components that make up the fuselage, engine cowlings/nacelles and aircraft control surfaces.
