What is an AIO?
An all-in-one (or AIO) is a fitted nappy that has a waterproof layer on the outside so that it does not require a seperate cover. All-In-Ones are a one piece system that usually have a hidden absorbant pad sandwiched inside the nappy. All-in-Ones are expensive because of the fabrics used (usually a poly-urethane laminate) but they are excellent for their convenience as no additional cover is required. Unless the waterproof fabric is autoclavable, All-in-Ones should not be tumble dried to preserve the waterproofing as some AIO’s will only last 100 washings depending on the fabric used. On the down side, All-In-Ones can take forever to dry in the drier or on the line unless they are a quick dry design (fold out soaker flaps). I personally prefer Almost-In-Ones, which is a waterproof outer layer with a separate soaker pad or inserts for the absorbency as this variety is far more hygienic because the absorbant part can get thoroughly clean and dosn’t take days to dry.
