What is an Agenda Setter, and why was Ozzie given the award?
While Bill Gates topped Forbes’ list of richest Americans last week, Ray Ozzie was in the spotlight this week being named silicon.com’s top Agenda Setter of 2006. According to the website, an Agenda Setter is a driving force in the technology industry that helps make breakthroughs happen. The website chose Ozzie, who is slated to take over Gates’ position in 2008, as the number one Agenda Setter thanks to the challenge he faces in the coming years with Microsoft. Ozzie’s challenge will be to lead Microsoft in the brave new world of online software services where Redmond’s dominance of the desktop can no longer be taken for granted thanks to the gauntlet thrown down by Google et al. He must also answer for the company’s ever-expanding product cycles including the five-years-overdue operating system Vista. Ozzie faced some stiff competition on silicon.com’s list, too.
