What is an aerosol?

0

Aerosols are oil droplets dispersed in a jet of air which are used for lubrication. The oil droplets are either generated close to the tool, e.g. with a nozzle, and then transported to the tool and workpiece by means of a jacket of compressed air, or they are formed outside the machine in an aerosol generator (such as the LubriLean Digital) and transported to the application area through several metres of hoses and tubing. Depending on the way the aerosol is generated, the oil droplets can range in size from approx. 30 µm (external lubrication equipment without “long-distance aerosol transport”) down to significantly less than 1 µm (aerosol generators such as the LubriLean Digital, e.g. for internal lubrication of tools with an internal coolant feed (ICF)).
