What is an Adventist school?
An Adventist school reflects the faith of an Adventist member, in that they follow God’s commands as instructed in the Bible. Adventists have the following core beliefs that they practice, follow and teach in their schools and in their churches:
Adventist Core Beliefs
“God’s greatest desire is for you to see a clear picture of His character. When you see Him clearly, you will find His love irresistible.
Scripture is a road map. The Bible is God’s voice, speaking His love personally to you today.
Jesus is the one who never changes in a universe that always does. Jesus is Creator, Sustainer, Savior, Friend, God’s Son, and God Himself!
God’s vision for you is life as He lives it! God loves you, and wants to give you the highest quality of life imaginable.
In the heart of God is a place you can experience as home. God loves you, and wants to spend time with you personally, one on one, as two close friends.”
Adventists and Education
For many years Seventh-day Adventists have had a long and intense interest in education. Adventist churches efficiently run one of the largest education facilities in the world. They manage and operate over 5,700 pre-schools, secondary and primary schools, seminaries, colleges, universities and medical schools—totaling and encompassing over 145 countries in the world.
The Adventist educational programs are comprehensive and include physical, social, mental and spiritual health and have as its main goal for society to have “intellectual growth and service to humanity.”
Pathfinders
The Seventh-day Adventist church also runs an organization for boys and girls in the ages of 10-16 that is called Pathfinders. Pathfinders are open to boys and girls and resemble the Boy Scouts of America, with their high standards of service to others.
Mission of the Adventist Church
The mission of the Adventist church is based with a desire to “emulate the life of Jesus Christ.” It is the desire of this church to create an educational environment “that makes it more likely that each student will accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Friend.” In addition, the education of the Adventist church is structured on the belief that each student is unique and of great value to the world. Within the Adventist teachings, students are taught to be a person of “service” and to be open to the needs of others and to be involved in all aspects of life—be it in society, church or at home. If one word could describe the educational and spiritual teachings of the Adventist church, it would be “service.”
