What is an Adolescent Drug & Alcohol Assessment?
An adolescent drug and alcohol (D&A) assessment is an evaluation process conducted by a substance abuse professional experienced with identifying, evaluating, and recommending treatment for adolescents with alcohol or other drug abuse and related problems. The assessment uses techniques designed to measure key areas of adolescent functioning as well as the adolescent’s environment. A typical D&A assessment will take 2-3 sessions. The outcome will be based on numerous factors, including the student’s investment in the process and the circumstances surrounding the reasons for referral. The assessment offers an opportunity to educate the student and the parents about areas of concern, and the assessor can identify some steps that can be taken to address such areas of concern.
