What is an ABN/IRD number, and how do I get one?

ABN literally stands for Australian Business Number. Like a Tax File Number (TFN), it is a unique number that identifies your business to the tax office and other official bodies. There is no cost involved when applying for an ABN and they can be applied for online. You can either ‘click’ the link provided; www.ato.gov.au/businesses/default.asp?menu=43064 or alternatively you can apply off line through forms available at the Australian Taxation Office [ATO] or your tax agent. Similarly for those applying from New Zealand, you will need to provide us with an IRD number prior to being eligible for assignments. If you don’t already have one simply ‘click’ on the following link; www.ird.govt.nz/forms-guides/title/forms-i/ir595-form-individualirdapp.html?id=righttabs to be directed to their website where you will then be able to download the application form. Once you have provided us with a number you will then be eligible for assignments.
