What is American Steamship Company?
American Steamship Company (ASC), a subsidiary of GATX Corporation, provides waterborne transportation of dry-bulk commodities on the Great Lakes with a fleet of 18 modern, self-unloading vessels. American Steamship Company has been operating on the Great Lakes for nearly 100 years, joining the GATX family in 1973. In January 2002, American Steamship Company and Oglebay Norton Marine Services Company entered into a pooling arrangement for their respective fleets on the Great Lakes. The pool operates under the name United Shipping Alliance.
